newbie requires a few questions answered

Postby bashman40 » Sun Mar 14, 2010 7:20 pm

Hi guys m new to this forum i own a R34 GTR skyline I’m interested in the VI-PEC ECU but there are a few things that are holding me back so I was looking for some answers.

Firstly i need to know of by changing the standard ECU to the V44 plug in board would i loose my Coded key on my immobiliser.
I’ve been also told that you can set up a switch between high and low boost on the VI-PECs this correct if so how does it work? Any guides? Or does the car mapper do this?
Lastly what is the difference between the Links and VI-PEC ECU’s? Someone convince me that VI-PEC is better?

Thanks in advance

The immobilizer is not part on the original ECU so is not effected.

There are many ways to switch the boost pressure. It can be with an external switch or variable using a potentiometer, you can also have a different boost in each gear. You can set these up yourselef. If you email me I can send you a mpa with a different boost in each gear setup.

If you want information on other make ECU, you need to ask elsewhere as this forum is for Vipec ECU.

Ray.

I have two boost tables setup in the vipec on my daily driver. One table is almost just wastegate sprig pressure, the other brings boost on a lot harder and holds 18psi through the topend. I've got a simple toggle switch installed in the cabin which is connected to one of the vipec digital inputs. The vipec is then configured to switch between the boost tables depending on the switch position, effectively a High and Low boost switch.

Hey,

The oem immobilizer in the r34 gtr (NATS 2.0) actually does run through the stock ecu. The NATS box is under the dash on the right hand side and uses the antenna ring around the dash to read the code out of the key. It then checks this code against against its list of codes programmed into it, before sending a signal to the ecu if it's okay to inject fuel or not (It is a digital link, not an analogue on/off type arrangement). The ecu also keeps a list of the codes inside it and won't inject fuel unless they match the codes in the NATS box (The BNR34 PowerFC does't perform this last bit, just goes off what the NATS box tells it).

I'm slowly (ie when I'm REALLY bored) attempting to pull the programming out of the processor in the NATS box to see a little closer at what makes it tick :)

Cheers!

There has been quite a few of the R34 plugin ECU fitted, and the immobilizer subject has never come up (no mention of it working or not). I would think if it did not work, then someone would have contacted me.

The plugin has nothing connected to pins 75 (Rxd) and 76 (Txd)

Installing the vipec doesn't stop the car from running; all that happens is that the immobilizer is no longer effective and you can start it with any key you want, coded or not.
